The Will to Believe

I was in the library the other day when I was quite honestly just doubting what God was doing in my life. I looked out the window of the study room and I saw a book titled “Doubt.” Immediately, I was convicted because I realized that I have a deep problem with doubting God. I encourage other people to trust in God’s plan, but I often struggle with believing that God has the best for me personally. Now, as I write this, I look out the window and there is the most beautiful sunset. In these moments I ask myself how could I doubt God and His plan for my life when He is literally surrounding me. His presence is a constant, His promises are always kept, His love is steadfast, and His sovereignty reigns eternally. A verse that has been sticking with me lately is Philippians 1:6 says, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” This verse is a promise that the Lord is going to finish what He began. He has the absolute best plan for His beloved children. Back to my story, when I got up to leave the study room, I passed the book and saw another beside it called, “The Will to Believe.” I laughed to myself because it just reminded me yet again how present God is. As Christians, we have to have the will to believe that God is good and that His intentions for us are good. We might not understand what God is doing, but take heart in knowing that we have no need to doubt our Father. We must have a deep knowledge and belief that God is good. Our circumstances do not define God’s goodness. When we begin to doubt God and His purposes, remind yourself to have the will to believe that God is working. I love in the song “Waymaker” how it says “Even when I don’t see it you’re working. Even when I don’t feel it you're working. You never stop, you never stop working.” Remind yourself that the Lord is indeed working in your life, and He will never stop working until the good work He began is brought to completion. Don’t let your doubt affect your will to believe that God has a beautiful purpose for your life. You are so deeply loved dear friend!!
