Eternal Valentine

To all my single people out there, you may be single but you are not alone. I know Valentine’s Day is the day where you see literally every single couple publicize their love for each other, and if you don’t have that with someone it can be really hard. I’ve been there, I’ve been the one that on Valentine’s posted all about the person I was so in love with, but now that I am on the other side of it all, my perspective has completely changed. My heart goes out to the person that is lonely and sad on a day that is meant to be rejoiced over. There is this song I love called “eternal valentine.” I’ve been thinking over the words && the truth is that Jesus really is our eternal valentine. Today does not have to be a sad day or one where you are a bitter, but rather a day overflowing with great gratitude because we have a valentine far greater than any this world could offer. Another thing I’ve been thinking through is what love really is. In today’s world we throw the word love around and I think oftentimes we don’t really think through what this word means and how much value it really has. 1 corinthians 13: 4-7 says, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
How often do you treat people in the way that this verse describes? Are you patient and kind? Do you envy and boast? Are you arrogant? Ask yourself if you embody the characteristics of 1st Corinthians 13. I think today should be a heart check to see if we are truly living out what love looks like. Even more than that, I think today should be a celebration not of worldly love and relationships, but rather a day to celebrate that we have the greatest love of all time. We have a REAL love. Someone who cherishes us and respects and honors us. Someone who embodies 1 Corinthians 13 perfectly. We have the greatest love of all time, one that surpasses any love story on this earth. Another song I love is called “lean back” by Maverick City. In the bridge it says, “I thought I knew what love was, but it turns out it’s better.” I think so many of us think we have this whole love thing figured out, but let me tell you something life changing. We will never have a love on this earth that compares to the love of Jesus. Never will we experience true love until we have experienced that with Christ because God is love. He is the lover of our souls. The one who loves us perfectly and without flaw. The one who never hurts, but always cares, encourages, and redeems. He is in fact the one. The one our hearts have longed for and souls have hungered for. He is all we need and more. He is our first and forever love. You may be single, or even in a relationship, but do not get lost in thinking that this is it. There is something so much better waiting for you, waiting to consume every aspect of your life. A love so genuine that not even a lifetime is enough to experience it. An eternal valentine. That is what He is. My sweet Jesus, my forever love.
