Enough

To be transparent with you all, I would say one of my biggest insecurities is feeling like I’m not enough. Not pretty enough, nice enough, smart enough, perfect enough, or Christian enough. I feel like I fail repeatedly and then I make myself feel terrible about it. I feel as if the world encourages us to live seemingly perfect lives. Do this to be cool enough, do this to be liked enough, do this to be happy enough, do this to get enough, do this to be enough, and it goes on forever. Truth is if we keep looking to be enough through the world then we will continuously feel defeated, lonely, and rejected. The biggest truth about this topic that I can share is that we are not enough, but Jesus is. Jesus is enough. I have been repeating this truth since 2019, but have I truly believed it and allowed my belief in it to shape the entirety of my life? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Oftentimes, I have allowed the circumstances of life and unfavorable seasons to define my faith in Christ and how I view God. If I am disappointed or hurt, my image of God and my faith decreases. I question how the experience could possibly be turned for good and then I somehow associate God’s goodness with my circumstances. What I believe about God becomes what I believe about myself and life as a whole. He is not defined by what He experiences and His identity is steadfast. God is loving, good, gracious, kind, present, never-leaving, all-knowing, trustworthy, faithful, gentle, and so much more. We must have greater faith in God and restore our image of Him to one of a loving Father who deeply cares for His beloved children. When we realize that God really is for us, then believing that Jesus is enough truly comes down to contentment. Believing that He is enough requires a knowledge that no matter what season we are in, that having Jesus is everything, and that His presence alone is all that we need. I think the song “Jireh” by Maverick City sums up this concept perfectly. Nothing is going to satisfy me like Jesus. The enemy is so good at making worldly things look so appealing, but we must cling to the truth that Jesus offers freedom, life, love, and eternal satisfaction. He is enough so that we don’t have to be. We don’t have to be perfect. We don’t have to fulfill the world’s standards of who we should be. We simply just have to be, and acknowledge the one who so deeply loves every aspect of our being. He is enough in every season.
